Salmon Inlet Took Merva out for the day. Visited the head of Salmon Inlet and then returned. All-and-all… about 6 hrs out. Sea King Did some investigating into why the Sea King (from Coast Foundry Co. Ltd) diesel stove goes out after a short while. I think there may be a blockage and/or leak somewhere…
Snug
The weather has been foul but Merva is snug in its boat house/shed. It was a freezing night so I decided to sleep on it. This provided my first opportunity, in some months, to spend enough time on it to re-familiarize myself with where stuff is tucked away, the state of the engine, and such.
Dressed For Christmas
Fall
Merva has been staying out of this fall weather and in the comfort of the boat house. There have been a few brief trips out… like the one today where Valerie and I hopped on for an afternoon trip to the Farm.
Kelp
Merva shuddered noticeably, the first two times I engaged the gear box, when leaving the dock at the Farm. I responded by greasing the bunk bearing and stuffing box. Tonight I noticed the real problem – kelp. I thought it was rope but I cut it up with a box cutter tied to a pole…
Wheel House Berth
On the boat last night. I closed off the doors aft and forward such that the kitchen and wheel house became one space. This was great for keeping the wheel house warm as the heat is trapped in a smaller space. I configured the wheel house from bench to chart table. I spent some hours…
Malibu
Here is an interesting bit of text with regard to Malibu Rapids – a place not far from where Merva finds home these days. It was taken from a ‘Bell Harbor Classic’ article (so credit to them). Malibu 1926 | 100′ | Blanchard Boat | | Malibu is a classic 100-foot fantail motor yacht designed…
Deck & Teak Oil
Out on Merva with some rain. I think the Teak Oil is totally doing its job. I expect it will fade as next summer comes around (and that is fine) but happy to have all that oil in there for the winter.
Teak Oil & Windex
Merva got a good coat of teak oil a few months ago but it was quickly sucked up. Today I decided to put as much teak oil on as I could. Its already showing signs of being sucked up. I don’t want to get it super saturated but enough to make a difference in protecting…
Replaced a fender
Lost a fender during cruise earlier in the year. Finally got around to replacing it. Here I am trying to weave the rope ends.
