The work on Merva slowed down because of our trip to SanDiego (the CYA gathering) and the cold weather here. Nice to get out of town and away from the cold and grey but I came back with a cold and a lot of commitments. That slowed things down even more. But the second layer of plywood is fastened down on the Port side and so is the covering board. The first layer of plywood is cut and fitted on the Starboard side. The Starboard covering board is roughed out, it just needs the scarf joints cut, rabbits routed in and the bull nose cut on the outside edge and it can be installed.
Turned out that some of starboard side deck beam weren’t in very good condition (lot of metal corrosion but no dry rot) and dutchmen need to be scarfed in on at least five. I have to say Merva is in good shape for a boat her age. So far, no dry rot.
The Port covering board is installed and the aft section of the new toe rail is dry fitted. The Starboard aft covering board section is rough fitted.
