Office and Short Trips

Posted on January 26, 2020 by admin

I have been on Merva a lot lately as I have been using it as an office. I hide out in Merva, coding on my laptop, for about 8hrs a day. This has been working out very well. This has not prevented me from getting Merva out to do things like check on the Farm.

Jervis Inlet

Posted on June 14, 2019June 14, 2019 by admin

10.JUN.19 We left at 9:00 – just as planned. Hugh was right on time. Not much to do except erect the mast and climb on board. We headed for Egmont with the intention of passing through Sechet Rapids around noon. Slack tide was around 13:15 or so. We arrived around 11:00 – plenty early. There…

Cockpit Benches, Varnish/Paint

Posted on June 4, 2019 by admin

A very talented woodworker made a pair of benches for the cockpit. These are removable but remain in the usual case. A bit of cosmetic work done. The anchor locker hatch and for-deck skylight were stripped and varnished. The capping board was repainted.

Signal Flags

Posted on May 2, 2019May 2, 2019 by admin

Turned the mast into a flag pole with the help of some thin rope and a bit of hardware. Still determining what the masthead flag will be but leaning to an owl based pennant. Also using this to raise the ceremonial signal flag line I created. I plan to store the signal flag line by…

Rule LoPro 900S: Why its misunderstood

Posted on April 26, 2019April 26, 2019 by admin

Rule created the LoPro (low profile) 900 to allow the bilge pump to fit into tight spaces. It is only 2.25 inches high and the outlet can easily be rotated to a desired angle. It can also be configured to kick-in at 2″ or (a very shallow) 1.3″. Mine came configured for 1.3″ and I…

Dry Bilge

Posted on April 24, 2019April 24, 2019 by admin

Water tanks sucked dry/clean and refilled. Moved fresh Whale water pump and installed a new Jabsco accumulator. The system held pressure over 12 hours so I think its ‘tight’. The thumping at the taps is gone but the pump still kicks in as soon as a tap is opened? The accumulator is supposed to come…

Fresh Water System

Posted on April 18, 2019April 18, 2019 by admin

Visited the boat several times today. I figured out where to install the accumulator. I had to move the pump (done) and move some pipes/fittings (to be done). I drained the tanks into the bilge. This allowed me to; thoroughly clean the inside of the tanks determine to what degree fresh water plumbing may be…

Fresh Water System

Posted on April 17, 2019April 17, 2019 by admin

First off – nobody drinks the water from these tanks. They are for the two sinks (dishes and washing hands). Decided to install an accumulator. This will reduce the frequency of the pump doing its thing (it can be a bit noisy in the quiet of night). It will also eliminate the pulsing at the…
